VENICE PRESERV’D:
This production shows how powerful and how disruptive love can be in all its different forms. Whether it be when the play when the play was actually set in 1680’s, when I'm setting it in the 1770’s or now the story of a rogue governing power putting the needs of the rich and the powerful before and often at the expense of the lower class masses is a common one with the rise of capitalistic ideals still ever present, and so this story carries through time. Also how women are valued and seen through out history to the present day. Designed in the colours of fuchsia and black reflecting the love and deception in the story and the greater game that is played in the production between the Senate and the Conspirators. This is also shown in the chess like look the two tonal theme of the costumes along with the use of headpieces to make the female players seem more like pieces.
