THE LION, THE WITCH & THE WARDROBE:
The driving force of the production is Good vs. Evil, every decision and action in the story comes down to morals and above all a sense of Christian morality with implications, including atonement, original sin, temptation and the order of nature. There is the overarching battle between the evil of the white witch and the goodness of Aslan, but also the children’s morals get questioned and tested many times throughout the story, along with Mr Tumnus, it’s a struggle that effects almost every character in the story. The design is an amalgamation of whimsical designs for the Narnian characters with a mix of folklore and Christianity and contempoary influences being the foundation of their costumes. Then this direct contrast with the fantastical modern colours of the children and their historically influenced 1940’s silhouettes adding to the dream like escapism.
